Notes

The AF prefix is the first serial number block made specifically for the United States commercial market, and it marks the Glock 17’s arrival in America. Like all prefixes, it spans serial numbers 000 through 999 and was produced at the Glock factory in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria. AF-prefix pistols were proofed at the Vienna Proof House and carry Austrian proof marks on the barrel and slide. Every known AF-prefix gun carries the “US” serial suffix as the whole block was built for export to the United States. All known AF-prefix barrels carry the July 1984 proof code, which suggests they were all proofed together. The guns themselves were imported through Glock, Inc. of Smyrna, Georgia, and the Glock Collectors Association’s Standard Production Matrix places their US introduction in January 1986. AF-prefix pistols are Gen1 Glock 17s with the early pencil-profile barrel, and as the first Glocks sold commercially in the United States they are among the most sought-after early-production examples.
