Notes

The AA prefix is the first serial number block in the Glock 17 Gen1 production sequence and the starting point of Glock’s comercial production. Like all early G17 prefixes, it spans serial numbers 000 through 999 and was produced at the Glock factory in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria. AA-prefix pistols were proofed at the Vienna Proof House and carry Austrian proof marks on the barrel and slide. The AA prefix is unique among the early prefixes because it records a change in the intended market partway through the block. Lower-range guns carry December 1983 barrel proof dates and lack the “US” serial suffix, and known examples have surfaced in Austria. Upper-range guns carry the “US” serial suffix and October 1984 barrel proof dates, showing that this part of the block was completed later and set aside for export to the United States. Because these upper-range barrels are dated after the barrels found in the AB, AC, and AD prefixes, this portion of the AA block appears to have been finished out of sequence when Glock began preparing pistols for the American market. AA-prefix guns were manufactured in both duotone (dark slide over light barrel) and standard Dark Gray Phosphate (Parkerized) finishes.
