AB — Modello 17 (Gen 1)

The AB prefix is the second serial number block in the Glock 17 Gen1 production sequence, following the AA prefix. Like all early G17 prefixes, it spans serial numbers 000 through 999 and was produced at the Glock factory in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria. AB-prefix pistols were proofed at the Vienna Proof House and carry Austrian proof marks on the barrel and slide. Production of the AB prefix falls within the mid-to-late 1986 timeframe, placing it squarely in the period when Glock was ramping up commercial G17 production while also supplying European military and law enforcement customers. AB-prefix guns were manufactured in both duotone (dark slide over light barrel) and standard Dark Gray Phosphate (Parkerized) finishes, with the duotone configuration appearing on a significant majority of known examples.
